Read MoreWe were commissioned to design and deliver a new community park in North Berwick on behalf of North Berwick Trust.
The Triangle space is located at a key point at the entrance to the town, at the foot of the Law, with views out across the town to the sea and Bass Rock beyond. The aim was to create a landscape that responds to its setting, and also acts as a meeting point for the school and the community.
The space is proposed as a rich and biodiverse landscape with a series of open spaces, in different scales to accommodate groups/gatherings of different sizes, both informal and formal. The proposed paths, meadows, and belts of trees in sweeping forms are inspired by both the sea and the local landscape.
A community orchard will be created with heritage Scottish fruit varieties and an area is being included for recreational grass activities. The orchard will serve as a community and educational resource, reflecting the land’s agricultural heritage and offering opportunities for community and school events, such as planting, maintenance and harvesting days.
The buffer planting consists of a mixed native hedgerow around the perimeter to provide separation from the road and a habitat for wildlife.
The project has been split into 2 phases – first one to focuses on groundworks to create mounds, seeding wildflower meadows and planting landscape buffer to western boundary, phase 2 will see new footpaths and furniture installed.
