We are Edinburgh-based landscape architects dedicated to creating better outdoor spaces at every project scale.

Hinterland Studio was established in 2022 by Dominika Henzel and Lauren Taylor. 

We are chartered members of the Landscape Institute, and have been in the industry since graduating in Landscape Architecture in 2005. We gained broad experience working at respected practices including RMJM, Aedas, LDA Design and Kettle Collective. Our past experience includes; residential developments, public realm design, primary and secondary schools, universities, resorts across the Middle East (and beyond) and masterplanning.

 

Collaborative working is important to us – we enjoy the interaction with other disciplines and have worked extensively with architects, engineers, housing associations/developers and private clients. 

At Hinterland Studio, we believe that the design process should be a collaboration between us as designers and our clients, to ensure we achieve the best possible results. We love to create interesting and immersive spaces and places that are rooted in their environment whilst being responsive to the needs of our clients.

Design is our key focus. We love to be creative, bringing spaces to life with all the tools at our disposal. We love to use interesting form, colour, texture, scale, and planting to create rich and evocative spaces.
