Pentland Hills holiday cabins, UK

The landscape design for the proposed holiday accommodation site situated in a rural area on the edge of the Pentland Hills.

The site benefits from picturesque setting with Lyne Water (a tributary of the Tweed) located approx 100m away down an escarpment to the north, the Wakefield Burn flows to the southern edge of the site, Reservoir and Faw Mount is located to the north east of the site.

The concept for the site is to enhance what already exists, and seeks to enhance the key elements of what makes the site special. The design looks to represent the area around the site in microcosm, with a focus on keeping an element of the open character of the landscape, with belts of trees to create spaces.

There is to be definition between the wider (and wilder) public area of the site and the private or semi private more formal areas of the site. Access between the two is defined by a gateway zone linking the lawn area and the wilder wildflower meadow beyond.

At the heart of the wildflower meadow is a natural swimming pond, with associated planting, sauna, a decked area and firepit. Proposal includes network of primary paths linking the car parking to the cabins, the pond area and the proposed dining facilities and smaller secondary routes leading through the woodland belt and the wildflower meadow, with seating areas around fire pits, forest bathing and yoga platforms.
